Month: May 2005

  • Today was my last day of work before starting my new job in mid-June. Here are some pictures of my co-worker/friends. I also have a few pictures from Kaitlyn’s 1st birthday party. We got her a Little Tikes kitchen (mini toddler version) and I think she liked it!

Zachary loved the crackers and crab dip … which is wrong for two reasons. One, I don’t think he should be eating shellfish yet. And second, he’d take a bite of the cracker and stick it back into the dip. Hmmm. Not sure if we’ll be invited back for Kaitlyn 2nd birthday…

  • Hi! Last Sunday, I hosted a surprise baby shower for my friend Erin (from Colorado, in case you did not read my previous entry). I was glad so many of her friends could make it – and it reaffirmed our need for a bigger home! I gave her a yellow swaddling blanket from her registry (wish I had one when Zachary was born!) and a pair of navy Robeez. She received mostly gift certificates, which I think will be useful in getting the big ticket items. Oh, and get this. I made a bunch of favors the night before … and then forgot to pass them out.

We kicked off this weekend with Ryan’s first birthday party. I met Ryan’s mom at my mom’s group – eventually she moved to Arizona and I went back to working outside the home. Her parents live in the area, so she flew back to celebrate Ryan’s birthday at their house. I love their backyard – lots of mature, shady trees. I got to see a few of my mom’s group friends again – it’s been about 6 months and our babies have become toddlers!

In the evening, James’ parents came over for dinner. There was a train meet in Sacramento, and they’re staying at our place this weekend. Zachary really loves playing with his Grandpa! (Below, they are playing with a Little People set from my friend Yoon… who also sent us 2 books and rainboots, all from Zachary’s Amazon wish list. I have such generous friends – thanks Yoon & Chuck!)

Tomorrow, we’re going to Kaitlyn’s 1st birthday party. Happy birthday to Ryan and Kaitlyn! I’ll end this entry with a 3-picture bonus for the grandparents…

  • This week Aunt Sophie came over to visit. We went out to a Chinese restaurant for her birthday. And this weekend, we went to Royer Park for Christopher’s first birthday. The bummer was that Maia’s first birthday was the same day, so we missed her party at Fairytown.  Happy 1st Birthday Christopher and Maia! Our friends Erin and Nate are visiting from Colorado – Erin (wearing the pink striped top) is 24 weeks pregnant … doesn’t she look great? (She lost 51 lbs before getting pregnant!)

As a late birthday present (We already threw him a big party and gave him 3 books), I bought Zachary the “Anywhere Chair” from Pottery Barn Kids. He loves it – he knows it’s his chair and will climb into it by himself.  It took me a long time to decide whether to buy it, but I think it’s worth it.

  • Greetings! Zachary’s gotten better. It turned out he had a sinus infection, and he’s on antibiotics for the week. His grandparents came to visit this weekend. And his friend Mia visited Saturday afternoon – we had lunch together and then visited the park near our house. It was pretty hot, so we spent most of the time under the slide. Right now, Zach is going on a 3 mile hike with his dad.

Speaking of dad, it’s my dad’s birthday today … HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!

    Updated to add hiking pictures!

  • Hi everyone! Two weekends ago, I went to a friend’s baby shower – she’s having a baby boy in July. Oh – and get this. Can you believe Zachary got sick again (fever) this Sunday? Good news is that he recovered quickly. Hopefully no one caught anything from him Saturday because we went to a BBQ at a friends house. They cooked ribs and it was SO good. As in, better-than-restaurant good. If their baby gets sick, we probably won’t get invited over anymore and that would be very bad.

Here is a story. When I was younger, I’d wear really strange clothes because they were a good price. I specifically recall some purple and teal jeans for $3 each. When I complained to my Dad, he told me,”These are Gloria Vanderbilts – it’s a good brand. Wear them.”  I swore I would never do that to my own kids … but the lure of a good sale is hard to resist. So Zach has lots of 2-piece sets, where one piece is missing. And while $2 for a piece is a great deal, it is hard as heck to match. This specific outfit Zach is wearing is really bad. Many people mistook Zachary for a girl – and most people were pretty confident too. I think it’s because of the shelf bra. We finally took Zachary to get a haircut (his second!) to make him look more boyish.

For Mother’s Day, I received a cork board with a hand print on it from Zachary and a spa gift certificate from my husband. Then we went out to eat (Saturday night because we can’t use the Entertainment card on Mother’s Day/Sunday… is there a theme here?)

As for houses … we found something I like, but it’s on .13 acres which is pretty small. Plus, it costs $700k, which is over our budget. California is just too expensive! And to top it off, we can’t find daycare. James called all the daycares in the Folsom Yellow pages and nothing was available except one place that did not have a kitchen (We’d have to prepare snacks and a cold lunch for Zachary.) Plus, they let the kids watch videos. Bah!

  • Ugh. I’m sick too. But that did not prevent us from getting his 1-year-old portraits taken. James said that we needed to get out for fresh air. I was willing to try anything. Zach and I were at the studio, both sniffling and coughing. I was even having hot flashes from my mild fever. Never again. Next time I’m sick, I’m staying home!
