  • Another good weekend! We started with with a long shopping trip - I think 4 hours. Zachary napped most of the time. When he got up, we took an art class at Michael's (craft store) - Zach and I both did glass painting. I bought him a Thomas set with some trains and tracks ... $59.99, but I got it 50% off. Zachary loved it - he took one train to daycare (will we ever see it again?)

That evening, we went to a BBQ at James' coworker's house. There was a little girl there that was only 2 months older than Zachary and speaking in sentences. I was floored. The parents tried to downplay it: "Oh, she doesn't really know how to construct sentences, she just memorizes common phrases." Holy smokes. Zachary can't get past 1 syllable!

Sunday morning, I took Zachary to the park, where he played on the slide and swings. We went to a Gourd Festival - basically you pay $5 to see vendors sell decorated gourds. It was okay. There was an art booth and Zachary took another art class (for a $5 fee ... this Gourd Festival is adding up!) They questioned whether he was old enough (technically he had to be 2.) However, ever the typical Asian mom, I convinced them to accept my son, who is advanced in the arts beyond his years. He mixed paint colors, spilled water, and made a huge mess.

Next up was a birthday party - Zach's friend Alex turned ONE! Happy Birthday, Alex! Alex was SO sleepy at his party since he didn't nap ... although he perked right up after eating fistfuls of icing! We finished off the weekend with Dana and Dave over for dinner!

NOTE: After much thought, I decided I simply could not spend more money at the Gourd Festival. So instead of a decorated gourd, we brought Alex a pair of Robeez for his birthday gift. James says "Ugh! You are inflicting your love of shoes on other people's children!"

  • they are the greatest shoes...EVER!!!

  • Hehe, I started buying Robeez because of you! You are like their secret undercover marketing agent, aren't you? What a fun weekend.  It seems so lovely that you make the most of your family weekends by planning such fun and eventful activities.

Oh, and about the speaking thing. Hmm, aren't girls better at learning languages?  Or something like that.  Perhaps Zachary is a math whiz and language isn't his thing. :)

  • I love Robeez, too.  I only get Robeez for my nieces and nephews.

  • those shoes are sooooo cute.

  • i miss the good ol days of swinging on a swing...

  • Wow so many activities to go to. It seems like you fill in your weekends with family activities...I wish you live around here because thats pretty much what I do for the weekend.

Don't worry about the language so much...Nathan is 2 years old and according to every single baby book i've read he's supposed to be speaking in sentences. Not my guy....I don't even think he knows 50 words or so.. ah well time will tell!

    take care

  • Wow!  I don't know how you do it with all those events you go to!  And shopping for 4 HOURS!!  Gannon lasts about 5 minutes (stroller, shopping cart, shopping basket), and he gets bored and starts to fuss - I'm definitely learning to shop more online as it is much more peaceful!  Love the Robeez...I love shoes too, and Gannon owns about 5 pairs, but can only wear one (his Robeez), as I can't figure out how to get his fat feet into the other shoes (NIKE's, Ralph Lauren boat shoes, you name it!).

  • You are going to be the type of Mom that has Zachary slump over to qualify the height restriction for admission discounts.

  • typical Asian mum hehehe that's funny, reminds me of this..."you know you're asian if your mum has short curly black hair and tattooed makeup"...but I'm sure you're not like that. I love seeing little kids do arts and crafts... it's so adorable when they get their little hands on stuff like that.

  • zach's growin so quickly!

  • From THE PARENTHOOD
Steve Martin's kid's mom to Rick Moranis' kid's mom: "He likes to butt things with his head."

  • Johnnie didnt speak until last May(2.5 yrs. old), all he could say was "Wah" and "Thank you" in Cantonese. Now at almost 4, he can form sentences, still not as "complex" as other kids his age but never, everrrrr compare your kids' development to other kids. Sure, we want our kids to be on the higher end of the spectrum but it doesnt always happen that way.

Zach is getting so big; I loveeeeeeeeeee the pic of him on the swing. What a wild boy.

  • P.S. I agree with snow__baby boys tend to be slower in the talking department.

I was talking and tattletelling by 14 mos. and Sam didn't speak until he was 3.

Maybe Zach will be a math whiz b/c I suck when it comes to math but Sam excels in the math and sciences.
