  • Hello – We’re back from Austin, Texas! We went for my cousin Dave’s wedding, and decided to stay a few extra days since my friend Carol lived in the area. This is a huge post since I know my family will want to see lots of pictures!

Day 1- We flew in late afternoon. Carol and her mom made us dinner. And they gave Zachary ‘welcome to Austin’ gifts – a teddy bear and a Longhorns t-shirt! Thank you!

Day 2- We went outlet shopping! And this isn’t Folsom outlets, but really nice stores. I think my sisters would have loved the Neiman Marcus outlet – they had Rock and Republic, True Religion, all kinds of higher end (to me) brands. I picked up a significantly marked down Coach purse, a pair of Stride Rites for Zachary, and a $4.99 Benetton top. That evening, James and I took Carol and her mom out for dinner at Bennihannas. We thought it would be perfect since Zachary would be entertained by the cooking. Wrong! He was scared of the shooting flames!

Day 3 – Carol took us to Zilker park, where we rode on a miniature train, in the morning. In the afternoon, Carol made us lunch, and in the evening, we went to my cousin Dave and his new wife Jiseon’s house for a barbecue dinner. Our plan was to wait until the rest of Dave’s family showed up, but Zachary started getting fussy/naughty around his bedtime, so we decided to leave before he ruined any more Janga games.

Day 4 – The day of the wedding (and Chinese New Year)! In the morning, we went to Mansfield dam. We also stopped by a neighborhood park, before heading back to Carol’s to get ready for the wedding.

The wedding was held at the Omni hotel. We visited with cousins Greg (with fiance), Eric, and Peter (with his immediate family). Aunt Stella, Uncle George, Aunt Margaret, and Uncle Francis were also in attendance. Zachary received red envelopes from both couples – thank you! Aside from the people (of course), the food was the highlight of the event. There was so much to eat! In the lobby area, there were many types of appetizers, including mini crab cakes. Then there was a full buffet spread with a delicious shrimp salad. And – who could forget the neon cake? Even I, lover-of-icings, was not able to get over the mental block of eating wild colors. Which only meant, I ate more of the innards. Yum!

Dave’s brother Greg was the DJ, and Eric was the MC. After the picture taking, we went to the banquet room to watch a video of the wedding ceremony in Korea. There were a few toasts, and of course, per Han-family tradition, the song ‘Baby Got Back’ was played.  CONGRATULATIONS Dave and Jiseon! It was a beautiful wedding!

I used this new sample pack of face cream with SPF 30. It made my face white. I didn’t realize it until I came home and saw the pictures. Of course James said he had no idea - I was so furious!

Day 5 – More sightseeing! We went to Mount Bonnel (an overlook) and the capitol building. Then James watched Zachary, while Carol and I went to the Harolds outlet where we took advantage of their 2 for $9.99 specials. Afterwards, we got mani/pedis.

In the evening, Aunt Stella/Uncle George hosted dinner at Ichiban – a Korean and Japanese restaurant. It was nice to get a chance to chat with Greg and Eric, since they were busy with their duties at the wedding. We also called Grandma – and wished her Happy Chinese New Year (a day late.) Thanks for the lovely dinner, Aunt Stella and Uncle George! See you all in September at Greg and Haiying’s wedding!

Day 6  - We flew back. Zachary watched DVDs on the plane ride home. When we got near our house, I asked Zachary if he wanted to go to school. He was so excited! We dropped him off, unpacked, did laundry, bought a Wii, and then picked him up. You know, life is pretty easy with one child.

THANK YOU Carol and Grace for hosting us! We loved the company, the food, the accommodations, and the well-planned itinerary!

Oh – and one more announcement. While, at Carol’s house, we called the third Musketeer (Natalie) – and found out she’s expecting a baby mid-September! Congratulations Jason and Natalie!

  • Quick post. Last weekend, James’ parents came up to visit. We made some Super Supper entrees with my friend Kathy. Then we drove down to Santa Rosa. James’ cousin wanted some car parts from his dad’s garage, and James offered to help. Since Zach and I didn’t have plans, we went down with him. Zachary loved the train layouts!

Oh, and during the week, I took Zachary to his school’s spaghetti dinner (James had a work meeting.) It was crowded and raining, and it was horrible trying to wrangle a 2-year-old while holding a plate of pasta. At the end, I was parched since my hands were too full to hold a drink. Next time, I’m bringing the leash.

  • Two weekends ago, we celebrated James and Dana’s birthday. We went out for an Italian dinner, and then came back to my place for dessert (from Ettores – same place that did my wedding cake) and Settlers. I gave James some games, and Dana some maternity clothing. Happy 35th Birthday James! Happy 36th Birthday Dana!

On Saturday, we took Zachary to a Kidspark open house. We stayed from 10am to 2pm … the entire time. Zachary loved it so much, he didn’t even want to go home for lunch. It’s a drop-in babysitting company, but they hold birthday parties on Sundays; we’ll be hosting his 3rd birthday party there!

A radio station was right outside, and Zachary won a Pooh shapes/sizes DVD! Zach “did it all” – he participated in an exercise class, decorated a bag with stickers, played dress-up, tossed basketballs, completed puzzles, read books, ran around in a indoor playground, saw a magic show, and played with a bunch of toys.

This weekend was Sandy and Melissa’s baby shower. Kathy totally outdid herself hosting the shower. It was in the evening, and she provided an elegant dinner. We had spring salad with a shrimp skewer, ribeye steak (grilled to our liking), broccoli, creamed spinach, sweet potatoes, and a chocolate cake with ice cream, strawberries, and whipped cream! They’re both having a different gender than their first baby (lucky!), so they received lots of cute clothes. While I love big fancy first showers, I really like the intimacy of being with a few close friends for subsequent showers. Both Sandy and Melissa are due in March – Congratlations!

On Sunday, I hosted a small get-together for the Super Bowl. Zachary was so happy to see his friends. He’s reserved, but very social; he loves having friends over. I think I need to get back into the habit of setting up playdates at our house!
