  • Two weekends ago, I finally signed up for a spa treatment using a gift card from my online friend “Pooty”. My first hot stone massage! It was really nice and relaxing – except for the part where I had to hold the rocks in my palm. I shoved them under the blanket when the masseuse wasn’t looking. That evening, Dana and Dave took us out for crepes – as the main meal and dessert. It was so good – I think Roseville started opening nicer restaurants after I moved out. Then we went back to their place for games. The best part was checking out their new nursery – it was really nice! I was amazed at the paint job. When we left, they gave us landscape lights as a thank you gift for hosting their shower and support through their infertility treatments. (Click here for their story )

Sunday was super low key – the only thing barely worth noting was going to the library and signing Zachary up for their summer reading program. He also now has his own library card!

Last Saturday, we went to John’s 3rd birthday. It was dinosaur themed and held at Funderland amusement park. When we first got there, John’s mom handed Zachary a ‘survival kit’ – a safari hat, a bag of toddler-friendly trail mix, and a water bottle. Then we were set loose to go on rides. I thought there was no way Zachary would go on rides – but I was so wrong. He loved it – cheered on the water logs, laughed while driving me in the mini car, and screamed like a girl on the dragon roller coaster. His favorite ride was the airplane, which he went on 3 times. Surprisingly, the only one he didn’t care for was the carousel.

After an hour or so, we came back to the picnic area for pizza, fruit, and cake … then did more rides until the park closed… and went home with a dinosaur party box.

It was so much fun. Both John’s parents are attorneys, they have 2 kids, and they pulled off this awesome party. I was totally inspired. Happy 3rd Birthday John! Thanks for inviting us!

As soon as we got home from the party, I started getting ready for Dana’s ‘book club’ baby shower. It was hosted by our friend Janis. The food and cake were amazing – Janis and her husband are pretty amazing cooks!

Sara and I were in charge of the games. Sara did nice games like writing down your favorite childhood memory for Dana and Dave to match with each guest. She also provided a trivia game that made me wonder if I knew Dana at all (yes. my score was that bad!). I did the shameless ones like getting people to complete puzzles and shape sorters while blindfolded. And a game of charades with phrases like,”Water breaks while shopping.”

There were lots of gifts, including a group gift – a new digital camera with 2 memory cards and 2 packs of rechargeable batteries. Since they have lots of nonlocal family and friends, I think they’ll get a lot of use out of it!

    Congratulations again, Dana and Dave!
