Month: August 2007

  • Two weeks ago, Zachary’s daycare was closed for 2 days. The first day, James took off from work – they mostly stayed home, but went to the twin’s house for swimming and dinner at the end of the day. Of course, no pictures. The second day, I took Zachary to Six Flags! We met up with the twins and stayed almost all day.

It was great! He loved Thomas Town and all the kiddie rides. He was enthralled by the dolphin and killer whale shows (not so much the bird show.) And can I just say how great it is that Zachary pees standing up? Makes going to public restrooms much more bearable!

That same weekend, James’ parents came to visit, and we also went to Alex’s house for dinner. Oh – and on the milestone front, Mr Zachary can now write his name in lower case!  He’s been able to write “Thomas” and “Clarabel” for a few months now, but writing his own name is something that’s actually useful. He can also do simple arithmetic (in his head sometimes!), but has trouble with the concept of a number being more or less than another number.

Last weekend, my sisters from the Bay Area came up to visit. My friends Uyen and Jenny also came over for dinner and birthday cake. Afterwards, Alice performed a belly dance before we all headed to the state fair. Wheee!

Jenny’s daughter Megan was a fearless little daredevil! She went on a bungee jump and also down a huge slide by herself - so different from Zachary’s more timid personality.

Alice treated Zachary to his first pony ride. We also walked around the vendor area; booth after booth of infomerical gadgets. Zachary really liked the farm animals, but the smell was too overwhelming to stay long.

At home the next day, Alice taught Zachary how to play Uno, and he really bonded to her. He loves playing games. Before my sisters left, they took me out for dim sum – unfortunately, Zachary was acting up, but the food was still so good. Thank you, sisters!

Monday (August 20th) was my actual 33rd birthday! My new team gave me a card (with gift cards), chocolate, and a joke book. Sophie gave me Bare Essentials makeup. Alice bought me a picture frame set from Red Envelope that I’ve been waiting to go on sale (it never did) for a few years! James’ parents got me a gift card to my favorite spa, and James gave me a waxing kit – what does he want me to wax?!

Here’s a picture of my entire team from work - I took them out to Mikuni’s for a team lunch and every single person was able to make it! I was so happy!  It just so happened that the best date to go was also my birthday, so I got to spin a prize wheel and won a free t-shirt.

Oh – and also these past 2 weeks? Sick. Mild fever on and off, coughing, congestion. Went to a doctor, who thinks I have ‘walking pneumonia’ and now I’m on antibiotics. I *will* get better this weekend!

  • Two weeks ago, we enjoyed a nice relaxing dinner/playdate at Alex’s house. Sam made a dish with giant scallops. It’s good to have friends who are excellent cooks!

Last weekend was super busy. On Friday, we went to the El Dorado Hills Picnic in the Park event – the line to the bounce house seem to get longer every time! This time, we had to distract him because I didn’t want to stand in line.

That same weekend, we met up with Rad and his son Tristen for lunch at the Sonoma Cheese Factory. We had lunch there, and I totally ate “my money’s worth” of cheese and dip samples. Afterwards, we went to Train Town – it’s so much fun taking Zachary places now that he gets on rides – including the kiddie roller coasters!

Since James’ parents live near Sonoma, we stayed at their place and they took us out for dinner. Yummy!  Zachary literally ran over to his grandparents and gave them hugs – he was so happy to see them. The first thing he wanted to do was play Candyland. Then he remembered Grandpa’s trains – and this time he was able to help navigate using the remote control!

The next day, on the way home, we stopped at the Jelly Belly factory for a tour … and free samples…hmmm, I sense a theme. I bought 4 bags of Flops (irregular jelly beans they sell for $4 a bag) and a box of fruit gels for my staff meetings and 1:1s.

This past Friday, we hosted a dinner playdate at our place. James cooked! He made beef burritos and dessert enchilada. (Yes, we served rice and beans to the same friends that served us scallops.) Zachary had a great time playing with Alex and Dylan. Of course nothing beats winding down with a bedtime story

Then on Saturday, we went to the final El Dorado Hills Picnic in the Park event for 2007. Zachary loved the wet bounce house and was so smiley, a local reporter took his picture! There was also a circus act and one of the twins (sorry, I can never tell which is which) went up on stage!

Afterwards, we went to Dylan’s house for Mad City take-n-bake pizza and swimming. They have a really nice modern pool. It was fun watching the boys play games. Zachary is quite a bit older (about 1/2 a year – which is a lot for 3-yr-olds), so he does have an unfair advantage, but luckily most kids games are pure luck. Plus, according to the 3 boys,”We ALL win!” (and then they look at each other with the biggest smiles … it’s really cute)
