  • Happy 2008!!!

The weekend before New Year’s, we had Zachary’s new friend Christie over for a playdate. And on Monday – we went to Kathy and John’s annual New Year’s Eve party. It’s so wonderful to have friends who are willing to host big parties!

This weekend, went to the El Dorado Hills library for story and craft time. The theme was frogs -perfect since that’s Zachary’s favorite animal. All the children got to take home a book about frogs. And on top of that, Zachary won a raffle and received a bonus book … a DK map book. We read the frog book at home and Zachary loved it – I think he prefers nonfiction … well, and Curious George. After story time, we went to Alex’s for a yummy lunch and playdate. The boys played bingo together (a few rule modifications) and also hide-and-seek (with many hiding places repeated.) Sam wrapped the boys up in a blanket, which was both scary and fun for them.

Today we attended Dylan’s birthday party. Happy 3rd Birthday, Dylan!

As a side note, we’re trying to get Zachary to branch out and eat different foods. Right now, his ‘accepted foods’ list include: waffle/pancakes, almond butter, applesauce, quesadilla, macaroni/pasta, cheese, chicken nuggets, cereal, cracker/chips, applesauce, cake, cookies, candy. (Obviously the latter 3 are very rare and only on special occasions, like birthday parties.) I also sneak vegetable babyfood into his meals sometimes. Today, for the first time, he had 1 mini corn dog and also a container of plum/banana babyfood. Earlier this week, he had a few servings of pear/pineapple and apricot babyfoods. I used to be against bribing kids to eat food, but we’re getting desperate, and I’ll do whatever I can to get him accustomed to a new taste. The plan is to start dinner a few times a week with a new food – and only give him what’s on his ‘accepted list’ after he finishes the new item. Oh – and I call the babyfoods “SUPER SAUCE” and tell him it makes him super strong. This weekend, he was trying to take apart his marble run (he knows how to set up all by himself now.) He had to struggle with a few pieces, and I heard him talking to himself, saying,”I CAN do it. I ate super sauce. I ate so much super sauce.”

  • Curious George is…fiction???  : (

  • Excellent tactic to get him to eat more. Even *I* am interested in the special sauce. As a woman, one of my greatest downfalls is weak arms.

New rule: I cannot read your blogs at work because I’m stifling laughter. I’m so annoying.

  • I recently got a friend’s baby to eat apples by making apple bunnies… Maybe if you try to make food into a fun shape it will help him eat something.

My parents got me eating oatmeal by giving me oatmeal with gummy bears?

  • Oh… I just look up the oatmeal and gummy bears… It was “General Mills Under Cover Bears Instant Oatmeal”
