  • Two doctor appointments this week… on Tuesday, it was Zachary’s 4-year appointment (3 months late.) It went REALLY well! Last year, he was embarrassingly uncooperative … like going limp when they tried to weigh and measure him. So I had very low expectations. This year, he let them weigh and measure him. He’s 34 lbs (20%ile) and 39″ (15%ile). Then the nurse rolled in a cart with the hearing and sight test. She explained how the tests worked (raise hand when you hear a beep for the hearing one, tell her which way the E is pointing for the sight test.) I thought for sure Zachary would refuse to answer … but he did! He passed both tests (which basally proves he is not deaf, but just chooses to ignore me). Then the doctor came in and asked him questions, such as whether he could hop on one foot … and he responded/cooperated too! Last but not least, he received 4 vaccinations …so there were tears at the end, but he quickly stopped to pick out water “aminal” stickers. After the doctor appointment, we met up with Dana and Jason at the Cheesecake Factory (where she treated us – thanks!), walked around the mall, and let the kids play in the indoor park.

Zachary ended the day by chucking his shoe at a random person in the mall, so we talked in the car and he promised he “wouldn’t do it again.” We’ll see. He’s still working on impulse control, and that’s something that needs to be resolved before going to kindergarten next year!

My 37 week appointment went well too – I am now FULL TERM! I passed the Group B Streptococcus test, and had to get another blood draw. Hopefully my numbers are stable/higher than previous tests. Babies heartrate was in the 140s … my weight was 174 lbs (0 lb gain, total still at 31 lbs) I’m not sure why I haven’t been gaining weight since I eat with reckless abandon. One hypothesis is that I’ve “maxed out”. I’m about the same weight I was when I delivered Zachary. Maybe my organs and bones just can’t take any more weight?!

At home, I’m napping and working on the baby book this week. I also took Zachary to the libary again and will be taking him swimming today (indoors due to the air quality). What a life!
