Zachary’s teachers tell me that he likes writing numbers. His speech therapist even says he has “an unusual gift with numbers.” They tell me that sometimes he writes in order (ie. 1-100) and sometimes it’s “random.” Now, I’m not a math major, but I do know that true randomness is nontrivial. Especially for a 4-year-old.
So here’s the puzzle of the day. Tell me why the last digit is wrong and what it should be.
(Post has been modified: The last 1 digit is incorrect, not the last 2 – thanks babytaz113 for catching it!)

1 and 0
should they be 1 and 1
Nope, they should be 7 and 1. This is going to take long to explain so I’m going to write it out in a formula…hahaha.
1 + 4 = 5; 5 + 6 = 11; 11 + 8 = 19; 19 + 10 = 29; 29 + 12 = 41; 41 + 14 = 55; 55 + 16 = 71
wow. i would have never caught that….
Silas.
What the heck?? How did Babytaz113 know how to parse the numbers?? Spooky.
@lum7777 - I think it’s because I’ve always hated Math and had to concentrate really hard on it to pass my classes. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.

You are an evil genius.
This is cool!! Did you figure out that the digit sequence was not random on your own? And did you figure out the ”rule” on your own? Or did you have to ask Zachary?
