  • I shall title this entry “the week before our trip to Maui” because I still need to filter through our vacation photos.

Last week, we attended Dan and Raquel’s baby shower in the Bay Area. It was a really nice outdoors shower, complete with barbecue, games, and 2 different cakes! I most accurately guessed the circumference of Raquel’s 7 month pregnant belly … by using my own waist. Ironically, I won a Cheesecake Factory gift card. James’ parents and cousin Chrissie (with family) were also at the party. Congratulations Dan and Raquel!

We left the party alittle early to attend a ‘Red Egg and Ginger’ party for baby Mia in San Francisco. It was great to see Rita again, as I haven’t seen her since she moved to southern California a few years ago. The party was like a Chinese wedding banquet, with a delicious 8-course dinner.

Zachary had a fun time running around the dance floor with Jason, chasing balloons. And Mia is such a cutie – very girly looking with her thick, black hair … Calie is jealous! We stayed until pretty late, crashing at Sophie and Eddie’s house close to midnight.

The next day, I met up with my sisters at the Academy of Science in San Francisco. What a neat place! My favorite part was walking outside on the ‘living roof’. Of course, Zachary loved the aquarium and pointed out the fish he knew the names of.

We saw a 3-D documentary on insects (James had to take Calie out mid-show), and I took Zachary on his first planetarium experience. He didn’t act as excited as I thought he would be … he seemed a bit serious; I was actually worried he was getting nauseated from the flying effect. But a week later, he started talking about outer space and spouting planet facts, so I think it just took him time to internalize the experience. We also saw the penguins getting fed, but ran out of time to tour the rainforest. My recommendation for visitors with younger children is to become a member and take 2 days to go through the museum.

On the way home, we stopped for dinner at Mary’s Pizza Shack, where I received a free slice of ice cream cake for Mother’s Day. It was a really good weekend. And a great Mother’s Day. I got to see both my sisters and spend the day with my kids and husband. I’m very grateful for what I have. (And I had to remind myself a few times, with an over tired baby screaming on the way home.  )

  • I don’t know about you, but my favorite gift bag is the brown one.  Because nothing spells “baby shower” more than the color brown.

  • Your kids look regal in their traditional Chinese clothing – adorable! I recall you had a qi-pao dress too but I won’t ask why you weren’t wearing it cheesecake factory . P.S. Is your daughter….blonde??
