Month: June 2009

  • Two weeks of pictures and activities to post!

Zachary has officially started summer camp (which is basically daycare but with more focus on activities instead of academics). Two Fridays ago, James took Zachary on a field trip to a small amusement park (Funderland) and the Sacramento zoo. The kids decorated visors and ate a picnic lunch too!

Over that weekend, Zachary had his swim lessons and in the evening, James took him back to the aquatic center for a free family movie event. They brought lawn chairs and watched The Curious George movie on a projector screen outside. On Sunday, we went to La Taqueria for our weekly family lunch outing. Calie loved the spanish rice, and Zachary enjoyed a quesadilla.

Last Friday, James went to Zach’s daycare for a Father’s Day event, where the kids sang a song and then everyone had a root beer float. Saturday, Zachary had swim lessons in the morning, and in the evening, we went to a barbecue at the Bacos. Zachary really enjoyed playing with their sprinkler ”toy” – and I was quite impressed by how 4-year-old Luke could build a sprinkler system!

Creatures of habit, on Sunday, we went out for Mexican food again … What can I say, we have a lot of coupons and 75% of our household enjoys Mexican food.

On actual Father’s day, the kids gave James personal gifts they made at school. I gave him a shirt (impulse purchase at Costco) and Ed Hardy cologne that Zachary helped pick out. The best part was when I asked Zachary to explain how he picked the cologne … he said,”It says love on it, and I love you sooooo much. For infinity years!” and crawled in James’ lap for a big hug!  In the afternoon, I took the kids to the mall to get pictures taken – Calie’s 10 month pictures and a few sheets of Zachary too! As a bonus, we met up with Dana, her mom, and Jason.

Today (Thursday) my team went out to Shady Oaks park for a delicious picnic lunch of tri-tip, ribs, baked beans, and chips. I was then introduced to my first ever game of frisbee golf. It was pretty hot (okay, VERY hot) outside, but it was fun learning a new sport and hanging out with my team.

As for Calie milestones … she has a new tooth (her 7th) and just this week, the kids are actually starting to play with each other. It’s mostly Zachary telling Calie what to do and copying (mocking?) her … but she enjoys it and they actually laugh and interact for a few minutes. I love watching them play.

  • My husband wrote an iPhone application (passport photo machine)!

If you know anyone looking to get passports done (and has an iPhone), please pass it along.  It allows you chose a picture (or take one) on your iPhone and format it to meet the US government requirement. Then it saves it as a standard photo you can print out!

First 5 people to message me will get a FREE promo code! Remember – you must have an iPhone with iTunes installed.

  • A few more fun, but pretty laid back weeks. The weekend we got back from Maui was Memorial Day Weekend, and we went to Sam and Melissa’s for a yummy barbecue, complete with ribs, salad, corn on the cob, and homemade sorbet!

The following Friday was Zachary pre-K graduation. At the ceremony, all the kids sang and recited a poem.  As they walked up to get their ‘diplomas’, the teacher read what each child said they wanted to do when they grew up. Zachary said he wanted “to help people like his mom.” Which cinches it – he has no idea what I do at work.

The ceremony was followed by a potluck picnic at a park, and a pool party at Lucas’ house. Zachary had a great time … it was such a fun day for him

The Saturday after graduation, I took Zachary to play at the MyGym open house … My Gym.jpg My Gym (1).jpg My Gym (2).jpg

and in the evening, I went out to dinner with my girlfriends. We all wore white t-shirts and ate with our hands – no utensils or napkins allowed. I was surprisingly neat (I’m only messy when I have a work meeting right after a meal), but we fixed that with some food fighting. Not one to waste food, I only fought with leftover sauce.

Sunday, we went on a family trip to the mall … for Calie’s 9 month pictures (the day before she turned 10 months) and lunch at The Cheesecake Factory. Calie was fine with babyfood and puffs until the sliced bananas came out. Then she refused the babyfood and started eating the bananas. And that was good enough until our entrees came. She figured from experience that our foods are yummier than her foods. And she was right again – she loved their broccoli white cheddar soup. In the late afternoon, I took Zachary to play at the park.

This past weekend was bleh. Calie spit up Thursday and Friday night. It sucked that it was the middle of the night, but I figured that’s just what babies do … especially since she was fine and happy during the day.  I took Zachary to swim class on Saturday, followed by a family swim event at the same aquatic center. But then Sunday, Zachary threw up. So I stayed home with him on Monday. When James took him to school Tuesday, he heard that another girl was sick. And Lucas was sick the previous week. And I found out my coworker’s daughter had the stomach flu too. Something nasty is going around and it’s very contagious!  I hope I don’t get it – so far I only have a sore throat.

As for Calie’s milestones … she’s 10 months old! She’s more aware of how people use tools/objects – she presses shoes to her feet and bows to her forehead. She uses a spoon to eat (messy!). She’s also consistently waving and blowing kisses. Best of all, she finally figured out how to make the M sound, so she says “mamamamamama.” I don’t think she’s really referring to me, but I still respond.

On the work front, it’s been pretty busy (Obviously I can’t get into details since it’s confidential.) But it’s exciting, I enjoy it, and I don’t log in until after the tots are asleep. Since they go to bed at 8-8:30am, I have plenty of time to catch up on emails before I turn in, and it’s been working so far. Sometimes I even have time to blog, type out a few FB responses, and even watch Paris Hilton’s My New BFF.
