  • Happy 19-months to Calie (March 1st) ... and Zachary is now registered for 1st grade. My kids are getting big! A few Fridays ago was a half day for Zachary's school ... so Melissa and I took our boys to SkyHigh. The kids had a blast (bounced for 2 hours) and as a bonus, the moms got a great workout too.

Saturday, we met up again at the library for storytime, craft, and a free book about bugs. During the reading, a few little kids didn't want to sit without their parents and a few even cried - but Calie marched right up front and sat down with the older kids. Yep - that's my daycare girl! Painting suncatchers was fun - although a bit frustrating because Zachary does not share my 'results orientation' personality. I see a government job for him in the future ... and that's assuming he's even employed. (By the way, I am joking - there are definately hard working govt' workers out there!)

That night, we got together with Uyen and Jenny (and their families/significant others) for dinner at a Moroccan restaurant. It was great seeing my HP friends again and Zachary enjoyed the dancing immensely ... you might even say he was mesmerized. Calie was beyond pleased that it was family style with no utensils, and she could eat with her grubby paws. Poor Uyen and Jackie sat at our table - they probably got hand-foot-mouth disease or pinkeye, whatever was going around at daycare that week.

Sunday afternoon, I went to Dana's baby shower. Her mom's group threw her a party, complete with catered lunch, a few fun games, and a cheerful (but now dying) potted flower favor. Dana and Dave received lots of cute outfits for Maya and many gift cards to Target. What a great group of friends!

A few bonus pictures of the kids above, as I love seeing them interact. Zachary is (usually) so gentle and nurturing to Calie. We recently received a big bag of books from a coworker/friend, and it has renewed their interest in books. Zachary even got a few more chapter books. Hurrah for hand me downs - thank you Traci and Chris!

Last Friday after work, I went to visit Dana. She took me to her favorite Thai restaurant and treated me to a delicious dinner. I think it might be my favorite local Thai place too - thank you! Afterwards, I went over to her house to say hi to Dave and her mom. I also got to see Maya's new room and all their new upgrades (TV, dishwasher, fridge, Jason's big kid mattress/bed.) On Saturday morning, I got my yearly haircut - I had 5 inches taken off! Then at ~10am, I took Zachary to Lowes to build a robot car with Alex.

The robot car was more complicated that the previous projects, but both boys pulled it off with just a little help from their parents. Next, we went to Michael's for their craft of the week ... building molecules using Styrofoam balls, sticks, and modeling clay.

After all the activities, it was time for lunch. We went to Mikunis for sushi! Calie and Nicole both liked the shrimp, so we joked that they would be expensive dates in the future. And probably not the best idea, but Calie did have a few bites of raw fish. Since Sam wanted to split a daycare referral bonus (1 week's tuition) but I refused to take it, we settled on them paying for lunch. Thank you!

That evening, Sophie and Eddie dropped by for dinner on their way back from snowboarding in Tahoe. Sunday, I took the kids to the mall for photos - Calie was 18 months and I earned a gift card from my last purchase in January that was about the expire. We took pictures and then hung out at the indoor playground while we waited. The weather was so great that I wanted to stay out with them. We had lunch outside ... then played (for a long time) at Whole Foods. They have a kids play area with lots of bins and pretend food, and somehow that's interesting to kids.

We also played at the outdoor playground, took a ride on a train, and watched the fountains. A epic shopping trip that lasted from ~10am to 4pm! I really enjoy these relaxing days just being with my kids with no real time commitment.
