  • Zachary’s 2nd day in daycare today. He loves to be read to. His dad used to read to him for about an hour a day. When he was fussy and throwing a tantrum, we could calm him down by reading a familar book. We have to hide books because he’s want us to read to him all day. When he visited daycare last week, he would try handing the books to the other daycare kids. They just took the books and walked away.Yesterday I went to pick him up at daycare. He was sitting on the floor with his back facing the door. He was trying to stand a book up on its end. No one was reading to him. When he saw me, he smiled and hugged me very tight for a very long time.

Today, he was playing with a ball when we left him. He got up quickly to try and chase us, but the door shut before he could get there (he’s not very fast, he just started walking less than a month ago.) He started crying. That is, until the teacher gave him Cheerios. Food makes everything better.

  • aww how cute. Reading definitely pays off. Nathan loves books also. I think when you have the patience to read to your children they will love reading/books.

Glad to know he loves his daycare. Its always difficult to find one that your child loves.

  • Johnnie loves being read to as well…

The funny thing is he makes me my mom read to him. Now she doesn’t speak a word of English…so she’ll just name the pictures in Chinese—he knows and hates the differences. HAHA.

I hope Johnnie enjoys daycare as much as Zach.

  • mmm cheerios.  best of luck with daycare!

  • Giovanni likes to be read to as well..I suppose that is the case because it always calms him down…his favorite seems to be The Polar Express…how weird is it to read a Christmas story this time of year?? lol. I think I’d cry if I had to put him in daycare…especially with the image I just got of him running towards the door after me. Don’t think I can do it…preschool is going to be hard enough. Have a great day.

  • Yay!  Mr. Zach will be a very educated boy!   Especially since he has so much interest in books.  I wish I could get James to be like that.  James just like to look at them and then toss them, even in the midst of us reading it to him….

Cheerios, something about them just makes the kiddos smile.

  • Hmm, couldn’t help but feel kinda sad after reading this entry. Seemed bittersweet. The whole letting your child have some independence and be in the care of others thing. Especially the sitting alone trying to stand a book – tugged at my heart.  I’m glad that at least food provides some temporary relief. Won’t it funny if Cheerios becomes his comfort food when he grow up?

  • Yeah I agree with snow_baby, the playing with the book by himself tugged at my heart strings too, he seems like such a dear sweet boy. My niece had moments like that too, but it’s better now coz she’s older and can read by herself, no need for others to read to her..except her mum. =)

  • What a cute story.  Sounds like he’s gonna be a scholar-athlete.

  • Happy Birthday Zachary.  Sounds like there is a mini bookworm in your family.  He’s adorable.

  • This is an entry you should show Zachary when he can understand. It is so sweet.

  • Cocoa pebbles and he would have forgotten about you completely.

  • happy belated to zachary! looks like he’s gonna be a genius… all the girls are gonna want him when he’s older.
