Last weekend, we went to a BBQ. And on Wednesday, for the first time ever, Zachary didn't cry when he was dropped off at daycare! He also received a birthday present from my friend Julie - 2 books and the Leapfrog fridge magnets.
It was a pretty normal week until Thursday, when I received a call from day care. Zachary had a fever. We've since had to go to the ER twice because his fever was at 105 (yesterday) and 104 (today.) They checked for a kidney infection, strep throat, pneumonia ... which translates to chest X-rays, a blood draw, a catheter for a urine sample, and a throat swab. Nothing. So it's probably viral, and we'll try to contain it using baby Tylonel and Mortrin. The volunteers in the ER room gave him TY Beenie Babies to play with and take home.
I think the ER section of the hospital is understaffed. I was in the ER a total of 8 hours (mostly wait time) in the last 2 days. I understand. As a mother, I consider a baby with a 105 fever an emergency. But it's not as urgent as, say a patient who was shot or in a car accident or having a heart attack. And with ER, it's not first come, first serve. It's based on the severity of the emergency. Now get this, get this. While I'm holding Zachary, I look around the waiting room and make eye contact with a older guy (50s) sitting across from me. He's holding a tissue in front of his face.
Me: Are you okay?
Guy: Yea, um. I have a bloody nose.
Now I am annoyed. A bloody nose? I have a sister that used to have bloody noses daily. How is his bloody nose comparable to my baby's high fever? Or the little girl who was bitten by a dog? Or the grandmother who was just rear ended? Unless, of course, he was a hemophiliac. But that's doubtful as he's had the same tissue against his nose for over 5 minutes. What I say next is somewhat rude, but I am frustrated, and I have a crying baby in my lap.
Me: Do you consider a bloody nose an emergency?
Guy: I haven't had a bloody nose since I was a teenager.
Me: You might be waiting here for a very long time.

Your rudeness is completely understandable.
When my son was 2 mos. old, he was gasping for air.
We waited for over an hour before the triage nurse would have a look at my newborn!
On top of being worried, I was very angry.
8 hrs....that is ridiculous! The longest I've waited was 4 hrs. and I was ready to strangle the nurses.
Awww man, 8 hours is nothing. Kyle had to wait 12-14 hours everytime because they can never find what is wrong with him, it's usually pneumonia. I always see the doctors sitting aorund doing nothing and the nurses come in and out once in a while to check up on him. With cerebral palsy, he's in and out of the hospital every month but he's been out for 3 months now! hehe Anyway, I hope Zach feels better, Kyle's been having a fever too but it goes away and comes back.
I hate the ER, I wish they would really treat patients faster as if it were on ER the show (though some people do wait) I remember endless trips to the ER and hospital with my dad bc he's alway has bad luck. Though I know in reality it's crazy hours and well I would hope they they are doing there job right in exchange of the snail pace they function in.
I hope Zachary feels better, sometimes mommy's touch will cure anything.
i dunno if you took these pictures while he was sick, but if u did what a trooper! all smiles!
I used to get those all the time. Just put some cold water on your face or a penny on your forehead
I wonder how long he waited lol. Hope Zach feels better.
That's the exact reason I HATE going to the ER. You go there for an emergency, everyone is the city is there, and you have to wait, wait, wait! That whole bloody nose thing is just a waste of time...I don't see how someone didn't tell him that before he even went there. I mean it wasn't even bleeding that bad. WTH? I hope your baby starts feeling better...I know I'd be freaked out if Giovanni had a temp. that high. When he was constipated it was 99.8 and I was giving him baby tylenol LOL. Yay for Zach not crying at daycare! I knew he would get the hang of it.
8 hours? wow! i've found that you really have to wait a long time when you go to the ER. funny that it's even called an "emergency room", when they cant really attend to you right away.
well hope little zach gets better! take care.
oh wow best of luck with everything! hope he feels better, he's sooo cute!!! good luck and take care
zachary seems to be getting too smart for his own good, looking at the sentence he spelled on the fridge!
hope he feels better.
some ppl are so inconsiderate ... i'd have made the guy wait for DAYS.
Hope dear zach's feelin better!
LOL @ the last picture!!!
A bloody nose eh? Wow, I've never heard such a thing of going to the ER for that one.....
I hope Mr. Z gets well soon! Take care and hope you have a good weekend!!!
Yeah, ER's suck. Does your hospital have an adult urgent care (less then ER urgent) clininc? Ours does but the hours are usually limited to 10-6. We also have a children's urgent care clinic (same hours). The wait times in either one are significantly shorter than ER.
Look, the poor old man could have had a tumor in his nasal passageway requiring immediate surgery. Give him a break!
I hope little Zach is feeling better now. I had a nosebleed myself a few weeks ago, after one too many hits of cocaine.
Yer boy is a smert boy. He writed truth.
