Happy New Year!
This week, my sister Alice came to visit for a day. We pulled Zach out of daycare since Alice could watch him. James and I came home early that day (hope my boss is not reading this), and we went to Chuck E. Cheese. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera, so no pictures.And after Zach went to sleep, we played Settlers.
We had a low key New Year's weekend, which was exactly what I wanted. I was feeling sick the week before - major headaches. The first day of vacation I took a 5 hour nap, and woke up completely renewed! Of course, since I was sick, we didn't plan anything for New Year's eve. Our friends bailed us out and invited us over for dinner. They have a son just 6 months younger than Zachary (as of today, they are in the same daycare class!). Their little guy got a huge train table and the big Thomas set from Costco for Christmas. That kept the boys (including husbands) entertained most of the night. After a nice homemade dinner, we put our boys to sleep and played Settlers.
The next day I invited some friends over for a chili dinner and more Settlers. Now I also have Seafarers (thanks Dana!) so I'll be planning more game nights in the near future!
At a work holiday party a few weeks ago, I met a woman with 2 yr old twins. Her husband works with my husband, and they are new to the area (moved from the Bay Area.) We got together on Monday so that the boys could play. When I came to the door, the twins called me Elmo. Their mom said it was because I was wearing red.
On the learning front, Zach can recognize numbers 1-12 and colors too. I'm surprised because we never formally teach him - Zach has never seen a flash card in his life, and I verified they don't do any structured teaching at daycare. I guess all the reading helps (he can sit for 400+ pages at one time.) His new thing is that he loves to group similar things together. This morning, I got a handful of toys from him while I was eating breakfast. I dumped it on the table in front of me. Upon further inspection, I realized there was a connection between the items. A wooden green train (Percy). A puzzle piece with Percy on it. And a puzzle piece of the number 6 ... which is Percy's number. It's almost creepy.

Wishing you and your family a great new year! How old is Zachary now?
god he's SO friggn ADORABLE i can't get enough of him hehe. what a smart cookie.
Quiet New Year's is good. Save the hooplah for single people.
400+ pages??? Zachary must either be super smart or super patient. Or both. I have never known a toddler to sit through such long reading sessions. Amazing! And here you were worried about his late talking, while he was secretly building a massive vocabulary list somewhere in his adorable head.
Patterns = serial killer
What kind of game is Settlers?
Is there a kid in the world that thinks you are NOT Elmo??
In other words, he made 666--the sign of the DEVIL!!!!
And by handing them to YOU, he completed the set of 4.
oh Zach = patters!!! its interesting! Nathan does the same thing....the blocks of alternate red, blue, and green, red blue and green..its quite creepy! Then I roam around the house and the has his toy cars lined up perfectly right next to each other....
I can't say it'll end soon since Nathan is still at that phase!
Happy New Year!!
