Miss Calie (KAY-lee) is now 2 weeks old! She’s 20.75″ (75%) and 9lbs 4oz (75%). She still has a bit of jaundice (you can mostly see it in her face),but it’s nothing to worry about – some kids don’t completely get rid of it until a few months old. On the milestone front, she is grasping with her little hands and lifting her head. Best of all, she’ll sometimes sleep at night for 4 straight hours (compared to 2-3 hours previously). She’s also barely fitting into her newborn clothes – and she still has a few new outfits she’s never worn yet! I’m going to try to get at least 2 wears out of each outfit … and then hope there’s a friend or sister who will want to take them in the future!
This past weekend, my sister and her fiance came up to visit us. James’ parents were in town for a train event and also decided to drop by. My mom made a feast for us! Since my birthday was the next Wednesday, my sister brought me a green tea cake. It was definitely unusual – the green powdery top was bitter, which took all of us (especially Zachary) by surprise. It took some getting used to since it’s not very sweet, but you could definitely tell it was a quality, gourmet cake.
Zachary loved the attention he received from his grandpa and Uncle Eddie. He also loves watching Wii competitions.
If you recall, last week, the entire household was sick. At my worst, I had a 101-102 fever and chills. This weekend, Calie caught it; twice her temperature peaked at 99.9 and she threw up a few times. She was also so congested, she had to sleep on an incline. It’s almost comical how many setbacks we’ve had – it’s just one thing after another. We’re really grateful that my mom was here to help! Unfortunately, this was her last weekend at our house – Sophie drove her down to the Bay Area on Sunday (where she’ll spend time with my sisters) and then it’s off to southern California to see her dad (my grandfather.) Goodbye mom and thanks for all your help!

Last week, Zachary started pre-K. And if you can believe it, he has homework! I don’t recall getting homework until I was in 3rd grade. This week, he starts back up with speech therapy. We’re hoping he’ll be much more articulate by the time he starts kindergarten next year!
Calie also had her first non-family visitor at our house. My coworker John went to Boston for vacation and brought back a Red Sox t-shirt for Zachary and cheerleading outfit for Calie. I warned him that we were getting over a cold, so he was only at our house for 2-3 minutes. We’ll be hosting a “Meet the Baby” luncheon later, within the next month, to share her with more friends and coworkers!
Baby’s first outing … we went to Lowes to buy a ceiling fan since the one in the master bedroom broke. We followed it with a trip to Walmart to get LED lightbulbs. I think I’m going to veto the LED lightbulbs. They’re very energy efficient, but it makes our house look like a laboratory. And not a well lit one either – more like a creepy lab in a basement.
In terms of my health, I’m doing really well. At ~2 weeks post partum, I stopped bleeding. I didn’t need to take any Motrin, Tylenol, or Colace (If I can push out a 8+ lb baby, I don’t need Colace
). My weight the week I left the hospital was ~160lbs, so down 19lbs from my peak of 179lbs. I still need to lose 17 lbs to get to my pre-Calista weight of 143lbs. Ideally, I’ll get to my pre-Zachary weight of 135lbs, but I’m not holding my breath on that goal. Since I’m still recovering and nursing (going really well!), I’m not dieting or exercising yet. Once I get the 6 week postpartum green light from my doctor, I’ll have to kick it up a notch.

Zachary shows off such a nice physique in those pajamas. If he was scaled larger, would you date him?
First pictures are too cute! Feel better
Happy birthday! Some translations:
“You could definitely tell it was a quality, gourmet cake” = “Green tea cake?? WTF?! Do I really have to eat this thing??”
“I warned John that we were getting over a cold” = “Oh no, how long is this guy planning to stay?! God I hope he takes a hint!”
“Once I get the green light from my doctor, I’ll have to kick it up a notch” = “Lucky for me, ‘notch’ is a totally subjective unit of measurement.”
