Guess who is crawling forwards?! Yep, motivated by her brother’s Leapster, Calie is finally shuffling forwards … she can crawl across the room, but only given the right motivation (electronics or small chocking hazards … big bright baby toys does nothing for this girl.) She’s also eating sweet potatoes, squash, applesauce, and multi-grain cereals.
Here is our activities summary for the last 2 weeks… 2 weekends ago, we met up with friends at a nice park for a playdate and pizza lunch. The park was spacious and overlooked Folsom Lake. That afternoon, we bought a rocket, and we’re still waiting for a nice clear weekend day to launch it.
Then on Sunday, we went to Jack’s birthday party … complete with an indoor bounce house and catered Chinese food. Happy 2nd Birthday Jack!
During the week, James went to see Avenue Q with friends. And on Friday, I took Zachary to the dentist. I was so pleased with the visit. He opened his mouth for the xrays and cleaning … no cavities.
And the dentist didn’t think a 4-yr-old (okay, so he’s almost 5) would sit still for 4 sealants, but Zachary did it! I could tell he was uncomfortable, even tearing up a bit on the last sealant, but he hung in there and got them all done in one visit!
Last weekend, I took Zachary to a pottery painting place. There was a small presentation on keeping teeth healthy (what timing!), followed by story time (Knuffle Bunny), and then painting.
In the afternoon, Zachary went to Bounceopolis for a classmate’s birthday party – Happy 5th Birthday Lucas!(Bonus – the invitation came with a free pass, so James took Zachary and Calie again this Thursday). After the party, my sister Alice dropped by. We had a lasagna dinner and played Wii games. The fun streak ended on Sunday when James and I both woke up with sore throats. Calie was sick a few days earlier, but we didn’t think the virus was strong enough to bring down adults – boy, were we wrong… it’s been a full week and I’m still coughing! (The virus, however, is not strong enough to impact a daycare kid … Zachary’s 100%, knock on wood)
As for more Zachary antics, he punk’d me a few times with trick questions. It really shows how kids think differently than adults … or maybe it’s just me… anyway. Two examples:
#1: Driving home from the mall, we see a few signs for sales, which prompts questions about why things cost money.
Me: So remember we had to pay $2 to ride the train? And you had $4, so how many times did you ride the train?
Zachary: Two. Mama, if you have $1000, how many times would you ride the train?
Me: 500
Zachary: Or LESS. <pause> Mama, why do you want to ride the train so many times?
#2: Driving to a friend’s house (I’m often trapped in a car, answering his questions, cursing myself for not getting the DVD option.)
Zachary: What happens if there are 3 parking spaces and 3000 boys?
Me: 3000 boys? Where is this place?
Zachary: Just answer me, what happens if there are only 3 parking spaces?
Me <exasperated by the insanity of the question>: Then I guess you just jam 1000 cars into each parking space
Zachary: That is impossible. <laughs like it’s the craziest answer, pauses> They all rode the bus!
