Month: October 2004

  • HAPPY HALLOWEEN! On Friday I took Zachary to the zoo with my mom’s group. We only stayed a few hours – the zoo smelled so bad. I also took Zachary to HP to visit with my co-workers, including my ex-roomate who dressed up as Dorothy.

This weekend, we had a halloween party BBQ for his little friends. Then we went to Bishop’s Pumpkin Farm. His dad said he could only get a pumpkin if he could carry it. Zachary finally found a miniature pumpkin he could lift and hold – but he still did not get to keep it. It was only 50 cents. I will buy him a pumpkin tomorrow. I mean, for heaven’s sake, we currently have a zucchini by our front door.

I made Zachary some fresh mashed pears, which he did not like. He is starting to eat a little better though – he ate some Gerber’s bananas and apples. Like his Aunt Sophie (who came to visit this week), Zachary prefers food from cans and boxes over the fresh, homemade stuff.

  • Hello everyone! We had a busy, BUSY week. We visted baby Alex, who was born September 24th. That boy is cute! He has lots of nice hair and beautiful eyes. Zachary looks huge next to him.

This Saturday, we went to a housewarming BBQ in Davis. We also went to a surprise birthday party – the food was catered by Macaroni Grill and absolutely delicious. It was a “billionaire” theme, so we all got dressed up for it.

On Sunday, we attended a beautiful vineyard wedding. Of course there was the weekly mom’s group luncheon and meeting (halloween party!) But this week, on top of that, we had a potluck lunch on Saturday, where the kids got dressed up and we met each other’s husbands. (Yep, we had 3 events, one right after another this past Saturday!)

James and I visited multiple daycares and finally decided on one. We’re going with Childtime, which is only a few blocks from where we live. I went in to sign papers today and put down a deposit. Then Zachary and I visited the classroom again. Zachary crawled onto the teacher’s lap! I hope he likes daycare.

Oh and Zachary’s latest tricks. He can get up on his knees – can’t pull himself to a standing position though. He has also learned to screech (bad, bad, bad) and hold his arms out when he wants to be picked up (good, good, good.) Still laughing lots, but also fussy … I know I’ve been saying this since he was 3 months old, but he has got to be teething!

  • It’s Zachary here again. I’m here to teach you all about being a metrosexual baby. First of all, cook your blocks before sticking them in your mouth. Use a nice whisk – any side will do. Next, when it comes to decorating your crib, mix it up a bit. Mix new toys with a vintage toy. To find your own vintage toy, just ask your mom to borrow her childhood favorites.  Remember, no bumpers and mobiles after the age of 5 months! Next up – fashion. You can never have too many shoes. I have five pairs and I don’t even walk yet. My father does not understand this,as he is not a metrosexual. Most dads aren’t, so work on your mom. Remind your mom that babies under 2 should be wearing soft soled shoes for proper feet development.

Here I am at a playgroup with my friend Alex, who is walking at 9 months. He is very advanced. However, I am very fast as well. Notice how blurry my hands are, as I snatch his toys away.

As a side note … do you think I am starting to look more like my dad? Two people told me so this week.

  • Hi from Zachary!

As a side note, I am starting to give up my search. I have been looking online for my best friend. I think she is lost. Has anyone seen her? She knows how to make funny faces, so it’s hard to identify her.

  • Milestone day! Zachary is scooting! It’s very slow, but he uses his legs to push his butt in the air, and then crawls forward with his arms. Zachary’s favorite game is to roll a ball back and forth. He thinks its the funniest thing and laughs hysterically.

This week, we went to a BBQ in San Francisco (Spencer’s birthday). I also went to a nice bridal shower at a tea room – it’s great that Zachary can eat solids now because I was able to go while my husband took care of him. This week’s mom’s group was at my house today…hectic, but fun. I think there were over 20 moms with babies!

On a sad note, my sister moved out. Zachary says “Sophie, come back and play with me! Don’t you remember how fun it was? I promise I’ll let you wear the turtle costume next time.”

  • Lilypie Baby Birthday

Zachary is 6 months old! We did it! We are both still alive and in love with each other. I am starting to really enjoy staying at home with him.

Last weekend, my mother-in-law came to visit. Zachary loved seeing his Grandma. Other than that, we’re still doing the same things … basically, getting together with my mom’s group and going out to lunch with my sister and friends.

Ah-ha! And I finally got Zachary a Halloween costume. He is a sea turtle. I originally wanted him to be a fish, but that costume was sold out before the first week of September. Then I wanted him to be a lobster and ordered it online. It’s been 3 weeks, and I cannot contact the company – they are not returning my emails, and they don’t have voicemail – so I am filing with my credit card company to get my money back. Anyway, the long search is finally over. The costume is a little big on him (12-18 months), but it’s sort of a rare costume so I couldn’t be too picky.

  • Zach goes to sleep so early these days .. between 7-8pm. So that means I have more time to post some pictrues! I know I’m going a bit picture crazy, posting so many this week. Zachary’s new thing is that he will lunge towards something while he is sitting, such that he is in a crawling position, and then drops to the floor, tummy down. If you put a toy just out of his reach, he will try to get it, but he never does. You can hear the frustration in his voice as he starts whinnig when he tries to “rake in” a toy with his hands. Then he gets mad and finally starts crying.

We just got back from Apple Hill today – went to 3 orchards and had a picnic lunch.

  • Okay, it’s back to baby picture time! I think he is starting to look more and more like a girl…

We started solids (rice cereal) this week and he did not like it at all. The first time he gobbled a bunch up, but then started screaming. I think his tummy is not developed enough to digest the rice. Then the next morning (yesterday), I tried again. All day he was fussy and angry. Today, I decided not to give him any solids, and he was all smiles. So I guess he’s just not ready yet. I plan to ask the doctor about it at his 6 month check up.

The ball (middle picture) is a new toy. There is a big sale at Marshalls. We got two plush balls on clearance for $4 and some Dr Suess books for $2! That last picture makes me laugh – he looks so happy and flamboyant.
